What is Pharmacogenetics (PGx)??
Pharmacogenomic is the study of how genes affect a person’s response to drugs. The science of determining genetic differences to predict whether a medication will be effective for a particular person and to prevent adverse side effects is known as Pharmacogenetics (PGx). People can respond differently to the same medications and doses, or experience different side effects because of the genes we have inherited. Therefore, these differences in genetic make-up can explain why a drug that is effective for some may be less effective for others or why a drug that is safe for one person may be less safe for another person.
Why Pharmacogenetics?
Our PGx testing allows a person to have prescriptions tailored to their individual needs. By analyzing the genes that produce specific drug targets or enzymes that metabolize a medication, a dose can be lowered, a different drug can be prescribed, or drug-drug interactions can be prevented.
